Meet Amazon’s new voice-enabled smart glasses

What: Amazon AMZN 92,25, -1,78% just released a pair of smart glasses that connect to Alexa to deliver hands-free voice communication.

The glasses, called Echo Frames, are available by invitation only and is priced at $179.99.

The specs: Echo Frames currently only ship within the US and allow users to make calls, set reminders, receive notifications and control their smart home.

They have four speakers, using “open-ear technology” which directs sound to the user’s ear and minimizes it for those around. The product also supports Google Assistant when using a compatible device.

What else: The launch was part of an array of Echo products introduced by Amazon on September 25, 2019, including a smart ring called Echo Loop.

At the same time, Facebook FB 313,59, +1,17% is also working on augmented-reality smart glasses which will reportedly help people “connect with other humans”.
